The beatitudes, as enunciated by Jesus is,
are a model of new society based on the values of the Kingdom.
The poor mentioned here is not just the poor in the literary sense of it
but in the context of detachment and renunciation
of what the world upholds in different forms;
wealth, status, honor, glory and even pleasure.
We need not allow worldly values to control our lives.
Our happiness will be complete when our lives are anchored in Christ.
