Things which Cannot be Borrowed

The parable of the ten virgins invites us 'to be prepared always'. As W. Barclay says, the parable warns that there are certain things which cannot be obtained at the last minute. It would be a tragedy if we have to wait until it becomes too late. It also warns that there are certain things which cannot be borrowed.

A man cannot borrow a relationship with God; he must possess it for himself.
A man cannot borrow a character; he must be clothed with it.
There are certain things we must win or acquire for ourselves,
for we cannot borrow them from others.
The first and the most important is our relationship with God, and eternal life it leads to.
